Kirk is currently employed as the Assistant Commandant (Strategic Communications, Information Technology and Public Relations) at Texas A&M University; as an Adjunct Professor in InfoSec, Governance and Networking for the University of Maryland (UMUC campus) and in Cybercrime, Risk Management, Cryptography and Green computing for the American Public University System (AMU and APU campuses); as a Researcher in STEM Educational enhancement using 3D Printing; and as an Author for Waterside Productions.

Kirk’s professional experience has focused on enterprise architecture and IT governance, project management, green IT practices, security and business continuity, information assurance and regulatory compliance with a background including digital forensics, WMD/wide-area disaster response planning, pandemic response planning, and technology audit practices in higher-education, corporate and healthcare venues. His technology experience includes application design, data resource management, network architecture, server and storage virtualization, strategic technology modernization, enterprise centralization and consolidation, cloud computing, research computing, and large network BCP/DR planning.

With a Master’s degree in Information Technology (Information Assurance focus), Kirk has served as a senior research scientist in the fields of cyber terrorism, cybercrime, cyber security, and sustainable energy. Kirk regularly lectures on uses of technology in education, STEM education for K-12 students, technology solutions for persons with disabling conditions, network and systems security, as well as strategic architectural planning to improve enterprise efficiencies. Kirk has developed information security, cyber terrorism, cyber crime and digital forensics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. He currently teaches at the University of Maryland (UMUC) in the CMIT program and at American Public University System (AMU and APU campuses) in the Science and Technology division.

Kirk has served as an EA and IT Governance subject matter expert before both Houses of the Texas State Legislature and has numerous books currently in print, together with professional publications, articles and white-papers addressing system inter-operation, enterprise architecture, cloud computing, cyber terrorism, IT governance, and alternative energy solutions.

Kirk’s professional certifications include the CISSP, CGEIT, CRISC, CISA, CISM, PMP, ITIL, and GIAC-GHSC (HIPAA Security) together with a wide assortment of technology, project management, and regulatory-specific designations.
